Interview Peter Anton
02.12.2020, Linda Traut (LT), Peter Anton (PA)
LT: What brought you to creating food as artwork? What and when was your
first „food artwork“?
PA: I was raised in a home where food was respected. I learned very early
that it is an important part of life. I became obsessed with it and I was fasci-
nated at how people’s relationship with food varied. I also would stare at my
plate and become hypnotized by the many colors and shapes and textures
of food. My first food artwork that I created was giant frozen TV dinner in
1991.
LT: I heard that you had studied film in the beginning and afterwards swit-
ched to art. How did it come to this?
PA: Filmmaking like art, is a visual discipline. It can move people through
the imagery that is shown on the screen. I always saw the movie screen
as a canvas. Like visual art it can tell a story and bring out emotions in the
viewer. A visual artist has complete and total control over their work and can
create something from their heart and soul without external forces causing
friction in the process.
